2018 Queso Meltdown
Queso, that cheesy, gooey staple of Tex-Mex cuisine, will take the spotlight at the second annual Queso Meltdown. Similar to a chili cook-off, this event lets queso connoisseurs sample and compete for the title of the best queso in town. The event features live music, food trucks, vendors, a bouncy house for kids and lots of melted, chile-laden cheese. This year’s event also pits San Antonio queso makers against Austin’s best queso to determine the ultimate Queso chef along the I-35 corridor.
Admission is $5 and includes complimentary chips and the opportunity to taste many versions of queso created by both amateurs and professional chefs from local restaurants. VIP tickets are available for $25 and include specialty cocktails and food from Spice of Life catering. Professionals and amateurs are invited to register to compete.
All proceeds will benefit Christian Assistance Ministry (CAM), a San Antonio-based nonprofit providing immediate safety net services to 50,000 people annually. CAM helps working poor families, children, the elderly, those that are homeless, veterans and others in crisis by providing food, clothing, financial assistance, ID and birth certificate recovery and much more.
