More than 1.2 million students in the United States and Canada drop out of high school each year (with the percentages skewed toward males, low-income and minority students). Millions more are considered at-risk because they exhibit ongoing disciplinary problems, impulsive behavior, truancy issues and have become frustrated or disengaged. The long-term cost of failing to engage these students is tremendous, since they are much less likely to transition successfully into adulthood and to achieve economic self-sufficiency. Join us in San Antonio to gain valuable insights and to explore practical ways to help this critical portion of your school’s population. Register for the School Climate & Culture Forum with a purchase order. Scholars struggle to consistently define and distinguish the terms, but educators agree on the need to transform both “climate” and “culture” to improve academic outcomes. This event features practical, real-world initiatives that are successfully transforming the quality, character and personality of schools. It showcases programs, assessments and tools proven to improve school culture and climate. Evidence-based and research-based interventions will be introduced, while the forum also highlights high-potential efforts currently being implemented in the laboratory of everyday school life. Register for the School Discipline Conference with a purchase order. Enhancing Student Success While Insuring Equity Drives Renewed Focus on School Discipline & Classroom Management Many facets of school life have been transformed over the past two decades. Curriculum has changed dramatically, technology continues to be enhanced, and assessment has become far more rigorous. Yet, in many schools, discipline remains much the same. Traditional exclusionary “consequences” – office referrals, in-school suspensions, out-of-school suspensions and expulsion – have the unintended result of removing the most academically at-risk students from the classroom. Citing current research in both the U.S. and Canada, advocacy groups and government agencies have supported an end to exclusionary and zero-tolerance policies, saying they are applied unfairly to minorities and student with special needs. In recent years, schools have begun moving toward progressive discipline, restorative practices, PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions & Support) and other alternative methodologies. But which of these systems actually works? And how can they be successfully implemented? Now in its eighth year, the School Discipline Conference provides a forum where educators can gather information on various approaches and philosophies. It will assemble internationally recognized experts and speakers and will feature evidence-based programs as well as promising new approaches developed by practitioners. Register for the Wired Differently & Trauma-Informed Schools Conference with a purchase order. Helping Students Who Are Wired Differently Succeed in Inclusive Classrooms  About 1 million students served under the U.S. Individuals with Disabilities Education Act have been diagnosed with
