Summer Teacher Institute: What Makes A Hero

This studio-focused institute examines the evolution and definition of the hero in world cultures and America’s relationship to superheroes in both pop culture and as symbols of national identity, American values, social politics and the concept of humanity.  Examine icons of power and justice in the SAMA’s permanent collection and the special exhibition, Men of Steel, Women of Wonder, which explores the art world’s responses to Superman and Wonder Woman ranging from their Depression-era origins to today’s contemporary interpretations.  Hands-on lessons include graphic novels, screen prints and sculptures. $80 for Members, $100 for Non-membersLunch is not included. 20 CPE/GT
